Project 26: Faceless Portrait | Hattiesburg, MS Photographer

What is a “faceless portrait?” Let’s start with what a portrait is. Wikipedia states, “A portrait is a painting, photograph, sculpture, or other artistic representation of a person, in which the face and its expression is predominant.” To me, a “faceless portrait” is a representation of a person but without showing their face.

When I sat down to really think about it, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I am friends with a ballet dancer and her family. I have photographed her many times, including her senior portraits. I thought it would be so neat to photograph her feet. I have always heard the about the damage and abuse that is done to a ballet dancer’s feet. It was a somewhat amusing phone call to make to tell her I really wanted to photograph her feet. She was very kind and let me do it.

I could not think of a better representation of her, this gorgeous dancer. Her feet show the countless hours that she has spent perfecting her craft since she was a little girl. I have watched her dance on several occasions and she never ceased to amaze me!

I had to include a few of her actually dancing because she looks so beautiful!

Please do not forget there are other fabulous photographers that you must continue to see! Up next is Celeste Jones of Celeste Jones Photography, Wilmington Delaware Photographer. She was the brain-child behind our theme this week so I cannot wait to see what she did!

Carey Pace - I adore this interpretation. The pain that it takes to accomplish a goal – the pain that no one ever sees. I love it.

Misty - Beautiful shot, it’s perfect for this theme and what a lovely sentiment to her. My daughters in ballet and her instructors are in high school I cringe to watch her put her shoes on, but at the same time I’m so amazed by their talent and how beautiful they are. Love your b&w!

celestejones - You did a good job interpreting this weeks theme by showing a dancer’s feet. I really like this, and the last set of her dancing:)

Gail Pomare - what a great image, and perfectly supported by the dancing shots. She is beautiful and brava to her for the commitment to dance that gives her those blistered feet. Brillante!

krista keller photography | Danville CA - LOVE this Suzanne. Her feet tell the whole story. The story behind the story…the pain, the wear and tear on their little bodies. Just beautiful! love.
