This week our theme is “Stories.” I am sharing a picture of something my husband made for me for my birthday this past year. It was a total surprise and he made it all himself. He is a graphic design major and all the color blocks he previously made for a class. He mixed the paint to get those exact colors and then cut out each square just for my gift. He also came up with all the wonderful sayings. I was so shocked and just fell in love with it. It hangs on our bedroom wall.

What he wrote reminds me of the story of us. Almost every year he makes me something for our anniversary or my birthday. I love the phrases and words he chose, “eternal companion”, “mother”, “friend”, “marriage”, “better half”, etc. The “& child” was really special because we had just found out we were expecting our fourth child. Our family did not even know yet, just us. That is our story. He is the love of my life and we have a wonderful life together. I love that I can look at this wonderful piece of think of that every day!

Wow, the last few weeks of my life had been so dramatic. I cannot even begin to tell you all that is happened, but please understand what a miracle it is that I have something to share this week! For the last “Me & Mine” I cheated a little and did not show my face in the picture. The point of “Me & Mine” is to challenge ourselves to actually be in the pictures with our kids. I could not round everyone up for this one, but I asked my 6 year old, Elise, to join me this week. She is such a fun and crazy girl, I knew we would have fun. We set this rig up late Wednesday night and my husband was a gem and took them for us. What fun we had!

As you can see, wardrobe, hair and makeup took a backseat!

What is a “faceless portrait?” Let’s start with what a portrait is. Wikipedia states, “A portrait is a painting, photograph, sculpture, or other artistic representation of a person, in which the face and its expression is predominant.” To me, a “faceless portrait” is a representation of a person but without showing their face.

When I sat down to really think about it, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I am friends with a ballet dancer and her family. I have photographed her many times, including her senior portraits. I thought it would be so neat to photograph her feet. I have always heard the about the damage and abuse that is done to a ballet dancer’s feet. It was a somewhat amusing phone call to make to tell her I really wanted to photograph her feet. She was very kind and let me do it.

I could not think of a better representation of her, this gorgeous dancer. Her feet show the countless hours that she has spent perfecting her craft since she was a little girl. I have watched her dance on several occasions and she never ceased to amaze me!

I had to include a few of her actually dancing because she looks so beautiful!

In the past few months I have shot some amazing sessions, but with the Holidays, I just did not have time to post them. So now I am working my way through several sessions I have to share!

Miss “W” is a beautiful Senior that I have known for several years. She is a ballet dancer and her beauty just flows from the inside out. She graduated early in December from Oak Grove High School.

Last year she competed in Mississippi’s Distinguished Young Women Award (formerly known as Junior Miss). She won for her county which allowed her to go to State to compete against all the other girls in the state. She came in first runner up for the State and we were all so proud of her. She worked so hard and accomplished so much. To me “W” exhibits true beauty that every young woman can possess if they are true to themselves.

We did several sessions together, but this one is one of my very favorites!

I am so excited to be involved with a new group for a bi-monthly project for 2012. If you are new here, let me explain! I am involved with a group of other photographers from all over the US and Canada! We will have themes that we will use to inspire us with our photography. 13 are “Me & Mine” which allows us to be in the picture with our families and 13 weeks of creative themes. I love the challenges this type of project brings because it helps you think outside the box and it makes you keep shooting, which is what this is all about! It also allows us to get inspiration from each other and to support each other as photographers.

Our first project is “Me & Mine.” I am already cheating on my first assignment. I had a mere minutes to capture an image for this week’s theme before I had to dash to work, since sadly, I did not already have an image of me with my kids. I had no make up on my hair is about 3 days dirty so there was no way I wanted to be seen. I opted to show my bottom half with my three beautiful children. (Yes, there MAY have been some retouching of my thighs. I am just sayin’!)

So here is “Me & Mine!” My kids fought us every single moment but we pulled it off! My hubby took the shot for me.

You MUST continue with the fabulous Celeste Jones of Celeste Jones Photography, Wilmington Delaware Photographer. She is awesome and I cannot wait to see what she came up with for this week. Please continue until you have reached all the participants. You will not want to miss a single one!

This year has gone by so fast it is hard to imagine! I was privileged to have spent this year with a wonderful group of fellow photographers from all over the country. Each week we had a theme by which we would photograph something to represent the theme, 52 weeks worth. Some weeks were very challenging, others were so much fun! I thought I would share my top 5 submissions for the themes this year.

5. Week 28: Night Lights

This may have been my favorite shoot out of all the weeks. My husband and I drove around while I used the Bulb setting on my camera to get the coolest images of the traffic all around us. It reminded me how much I love photography.

4. Week 1: Self Portrait

This was done our first week together. It was so fun going through each person’s submission to see what we each came up with for our “self portrait.” I lost those glasses in a field during a shoot. I really miss them.

3. Week: 33: Cars

Okay I am feeling really vain that I have another image of myself, but this image makes me laugh every time I see it! The theme was “Cars” and I had this vision of a session with a model and an old vintage car. Well, that did not pan out so I had this crazy idea last minute to photograph myself with my van in a sort of a mockery of a beautiful model in front of a sports car. I did this all by myself with off camera flash. It was such a feat to pull this off by myself. I will never forget how much fun this was.

2. Week 6: Someone You Love

I kind of cheated on this one. I did not take this picture but when I thought of the theme I immediately thought of my Aunt Clarice whom I loved dearly and missed so much. My submission was a scan I made of one of her recipes and a picture of her with her Bookmobile.

1. Week: 24: Father

My favorite submission this year was actually one I did for a contest on the Bloom Forum. I actually ended up placing 2nd and won some awesome stuff! The theme for the contest was “Love Letters.” I thought of the lines on my dad’s face are like a love letter to his family of the sacrifices he has made for us. It was the most emotional thing I did this year.

The weekly project kept me going and gave me a reason to shoot, even if I did not have client session that week. I loved the ladies I have worked with and have learned s much from them. Please continue this journey of our last week with Twice As Nice Photography | Inland Empire Wedding and Family Photographer.

This week our theme is “Winter/Cold/Freezing.” We live in South Mississippi. It was in the 80′s last week. When I think of winter, I think of snow. When I was a little girl it snowed about once every 5 years. It was always a small blanket of snow that lasted maybe 2 days. In the past few years, it has actually snowed several times, which has been a rare treat.

I love the movie “Elf.” My “set” was inspired my the movie. Buddy, the elf, makes tons of snowflakes and paper chains out of white paper and it looks like a winter wonderland. I was not able to make as many snow flakes as he did, but I had fun making the ones I used.

I had the idea last week but it was raining so I had to wait for a day that was clear. It still looked like it was going to rain any moment, but we were able to get our session done before the rain. Emma loves to model for me and we always have so much fun. Elise was my “director.” She yelled out, “pose!” every few minutes. It was cute!

*Warning, image heavy!* I could not help myself!

Every year growing up our tradition was Christmas stuff could go up the day after Thanksgiving. It was so fun getting everything out and finding all the ornaments we remembered from the year before. My favorite part was rediscovering the handmade ornaments we made at school. I LOVED finding those ornaments with my picture on it, or my fingerprints. My mom always let us hang those on the “big tree.”

Now with our own family, we get every thing out the day after Thanksgiving. The kids love to find their handmade ornaments. I love to see them too and to see how much they have grown from the year before. I appreciate their teachers for taking the time to help our kids make these family heirlooms.

The image I am sharing showcases one that my oldest made in school. The snowman is made of her fingerprints. So sweet! There are several other handmade ornaments around it. I love that my kids are making the same childhood memories just like I did.

Please continue on to see what other Childhood Memories have been shared by the rest of the group! Next up is the fabulous Photography by KISS- Lexington, KY Photographer.
