Project 52 {Week 29} Old/Antiques | Hattiesburg, MS Photographer

July 22nd, 2011

I had my first session at my home this past week. Tina and Michael came all the way from Taylorsville. I photographed their wedding years ago when I was pregnant with Elise. It was a beautiful wedding. I am honored they asked me to take pictures of their newborn, little Eli.

I had an idea to pull two of the drawers out of our dresser in our bedroom and place baby Eli in them for a few shots. The dresser belonged to my aunt, Aunt Clarice. (Featured in a previous Project 52 HERE) She meant the world to me. When she passed I became the owner of her bedroom suit. It came with a beautiful sleigh bed, two side tables, a large dresser and mirror. I have the pieces all over my home. They mean so much to me because they remind me of her. When we would spend the night in her home, we would stay in the room with this furniture. The bed was so tall! I remember the dresser was filled with “goodies”, her costume jewelry, gloves, old papers, etc. It was a treasure chest to me!

{Forever Friday} “Film” | Hattiesburg, MS Photographer

July 22nd, 2011

Well this week I delve back into film photography. My parents bought me my first 35mm SLR when I was a Junior in High School. I loved taking pictures of scenery and random objects. I still have my mom’s old 35mm that is at least 30 years old. Years ago I acquired an old Minolta from my brother. It originated in 1981. This week I bought a roll of 24xp Kodak film from Target and set out to see if I could still shoot film and them actually turn out using the Minolta! (Digital has me soooo spoiled!)

It was a pleasant surprise to find that they actually did turn out and all of them in the proper exposure. I have many that I took but this is a favorite of mine. This is of Elise. I took it with color film but converted it to b/w in Photoshop using Florabella’s Blush b/w action.

Project 52 {Week 28} Night Lights | Hattiesburg, MS Photographer

July 15th, 2011

At midnight tonight Neil and I met with my sister and niece to see Harry Potter. Yes, I waited until the very last moment to complete my project for this week but I will say, this has been one of my most favorite yet! I grabbed my camera as we drove the the theater and just captured all the lights around me. I LOVE the Bulb setting on a camera and it has been a long time since I played around with it. So Neil drove and it was raining and I just hand held the camera and took image after image of us with the traffice around us and the red lights. It was so much fun! I was like, “Oh look at this one!” or “Oh this one looks so cool!” It was really fun. I narrowed these down to my 3 favorites.

The first one is when we stopped to get gas. This is the traffice going by as we were leaving the parking lot. The second is the view of us driving under a green light. The third is the traffic in front of us at a red light. I moved the camera up and down in a quick motion while I held the shutter. That is what gives is a neat wavy effect.

If you have not played around with the Bulb setting on your camera, or if it has been awhile, do it tonight. It is so fun!!

July 8th, 2011

This week was such a challenge for me. I have not tried to capture a silhouette before, but I like a good challenge!
